This morning I stepped out onto the front porch to breathe and feel the air around me. I looked across the front yard towards the street and saw a cardinal in flight.

At the moment my eyes locked on to it, the bird rounded a path in my direction, as if we were magnetized to each other. I watched dumbfounded as this small yet powerful red and black creature charged toward me. With a mere few feet to spare before finding out if it could pump its wings straight through my chest, it veered right and in a moment was out of view.

Just as I thought the show was over two more cardinals came flying by. One landed on the roof rack of my Honda Element. It had something dangling out of its mouth that I presumed to be a worm. It looked at me, and with a strange nod of its head, dropped the item in a such a way that it stuck to the driver’s side window of the car, then flew off in the direction from which it came.

I approached the window to find a tiny red feather with shades of black attached to it.

Thanks for the gift little friend.
