While listening to the radio the other day I heard a message promoting adoption. At one point , the voice coming through the speaker said something to the affect of “call this number to learn about kids available for adoption.” And something about the word available made me cringe. Like, are they selling cars here? Come on down to the lot to see what’s in stock. I trust that wasn’t the intended sentiment behind the message, but, man, we’ve really created a society where everything is considered a transaction, haven’t we?
